Casino Floor Etiquette for First-Time Visitors

A surprising number of guests tell the front desk this is their first time on any casino floor, not just ours. Casino Floor Manager Coy Whitfield's team fields the same handful of questions often enough that it made sense to write them down in one place.

Bring Valid Photo ID, No Exceptions

The gaming floor, poker room, and sportsbook lounge require guests to be 21 or older with valid government-issued photo ID. This is checked at the entrance and again at the cashier's cage for any payout, so bring it even if you only plan to watch.

You Do Not Need to Know the Rules Cold

Dealers are trained to walk new players through a hand at a reasonable pace, and most tables are patient with someone clearly learning as they go. If a table feels too fast, it is completely normal to step back and watch a round or two before sitting down, or to ask the dealer to slow down once you are seated.

Most of the low-limit tables run earlier in the evening before the floor fills up — a comfortable window for a first-timer to get a feel for a game without a crowd watching.

Table Minimums Vary by Time and Table

Minimum bets are posted on a small placard at each table and change through the evening as the floor fills up. Earlier in the evening generally means lower minimums; weekend nights and later hours tend to run higher. If a minimum feels too high, another table nearby is often running a lower one.

Tipping Dealers

Tipping dealers is customary but not mandatory. Most regulars either tip per hand won or place a small side bet for the dealer, but there is no fixed rule — tip what feels appropriate for the service and your results at the table.

The Player's Club Is Worth Signing Up For

Signing up for the player's club at the casino cage takes a few minutes and starts earning comp credit toward rooms, dining, and spa treatments right away. There is no cost to join, and the card also gets scanned at table games to track play toward those credits.

What to Wear

The gaming floor does not enforce a strict dress code, but collared shirts and closed-toe shoes are the norm for evenings, especially near the high-limit room and Bayou Poker Room. Daytime and weekday visits tend to be more casual.
